By Kerry Guard on March 26, 2012
More than a year after the Federal Trade Commission introducing a privacy framework draft, the agency now wants data brokers to create a web site that details data collection, sales & disclosure.
Last years draft was published as a final version today, which you can download by clicking here, and includes the following points:
- Stresses the need for do-not-track legislation
- The FTC will work with the Digital Advertising Alliance and the World Wide Web Consortium to develop a standard do-not-track browser tool
- The aforementioned centralized website that discloses data collection & sales by vendor should also allows users to click through to data vendors websites to learn more or remove themselves from tracking practices
- Moving forward, the FTC wants mobile companies to develop privacy protections, including development of short disclosures about what user data is being tracked on mobile devices
