FTC Wants Online Privacy Hub for Data Vendors

More than a year after the Federal Trade Commission introducing a privacy framework draft, the agency now wants data brokers to create a web site that details data collection, sales & disclosure.

Last years draft was published as a final version today, which you can download by clicking here, and includes the following points:

  • Stresses the need for do-not-track legislation
  • The FTC will work with the Digital Advertising Alliance and the World Wide Web Consortium to develop a standard do-not-track browser tool
  • The aforementioned centralized website that discloses data collection & sales by vendor should also allows users to click through to data vendors websites to learn more or remove themselves from tracking practices
  • Moving forward, the FTC wants mobile companies to develop privacy protections, including development of short disclosures about what user data is being tracked on mobile devices

How will these FTC regulations affect your current online marketing strategy?
