The Challenge: Visibility Now, Sustainability Later
Solidigm competes in a crowded, technical market — data storage solutions for enterprises, data centers, and high-performance computing. Getting in front of the right buyers isn't easy, and waiting months for organic search to gain traction isn't always an option when pipeline pressure is real.
The challenge MKG faced: how do you drive meaningful traffic and engagement right now while also building the kind of organic search presence that doesn't disappear the moment you pause a campaign?
The answer was to run both plays at the same time — and design them to reinforce each other.
The Strategy: Ads Build the Bridge, SVO Builds the Highway
MKG launched a two-track approach starting in January 2026.
Track 1 — Ads for immediate visibility. Display campaigns (Google Display Network) ran across brand-relevant placements to build awareness and drive high volumes of qualified traffic to Solidigm's site. A Search campaign captured high-intent buyers actively looking for storage solutions. Together, these channels maintained consistent visibility while the SVO work ramped up — and crucially, the display ads were building brand recognition that would later show up as organic brand searches.
Track 2 — SVO to earn lasting organic presence. Search Visibility Optimization is MKG's framework for building durable visibility: making sure the right content exists, that it earns authority across search and AI platforms, and that it compounds over time. The SVO work ran on three tracks simultaneously:
- Utility content — pages that help users solve real problems (firmware updates, secure erase, driver downloads, error troubleshooting), which earn organic traffic from high-intent searches
- Product and technology pages — optimizing Solidigm's data center and client SSD pages for product-specific queries, with AI and inference content added to capture an emerging category
- Earned media content — authoritative pieces designed to generate organic impressions far beyond what traditional optimization achieves
The Results
Search Visibility Grew 35% in Two Months
The clearest measure of SVO working isn't clicks — it's impressions. Impressions tell you how many times Google is choosing to show your content in response to a search. When impressions grow while positions improve, it means the organic footprint is expanding with quality, not just quantity.
| Month | Impressions | Avg. Position | Clicks |
|---|---|---|---|
| January 2026 | 110,949 | 5.6 | 8,228 |
| February 2026 | 120,312 | 4.5 | 7,465 |
| March 2026 | 149,890 | 4.4 | 7,865 |
From January to March, organic impressions grew 35% and average position improved by more than a full rank. By March, 307 pages that weren't appearing in Google results in January had entered the organic index — a direct indicator of the expanding content footprint.
Specific Queries That Moved
The SVO strategy focused on utility and product queries where Solidigm could genuinely earn relevance. Here's what moved:
| Query | Jan Position | Apr Position | Change |
|---|---|---|---|
| ssd repair tool | 29.3 | 8.5 | +20.8 |
| gpt partition style | 13.3 | 7.4 | +5.9 |
| ssd firmware update | 9.5 | 4.9 | +4.6 |
| secure erase ssd | 9.1 | 6.2 | +2.9 |
| ssd drivers | 11.3 | 7.9 | +3.4 |
| solidigm ssd | 3.3 | 2.4 | +0.9 |
Support page clicks for drivers and downloads grew from 734 in January to 954 in March — users finding Solidigm through organic search when they needed help, building the kind of trust that paid ads can't manufacture.
The Pi Moment: What Earned Media Looks Like at Scale
In March, a content piece about Solidigm SSDs powering a new world record calculation of digits of Pi generated 136,719 impressions in a single month — a massive organic visibility spike driven entirely by the newsworthiness of the content. The page ranked at position 2.1 and the "how many digits of pi are known" query ranked at position 1.1 for Solidigm.
This is SVO content strategy at work: rather than chasing existing search volume, create content that earns its own visibility. One well-executed earned media piece outperformed hundreds of conventional optimization hours in raw impressions.
Ads and Organic Were Reinforcing Each Other
A less obvious but important dynamic: the Display campaigns running January through March were building brand awareness that showed up in organic results. The homepage — Solidigm's highest-traffic organic page — improved its average position from 7.24 in January to 4.54 in March. Brand awareness from display drove more branded organic searches, which strengthened the homepage's organic signal.
This cross-channel reinforcement is the real argument for running ads and SVO simultaneously. Each channel makes the other more effective.
The Real Test: What Happened When Ads Were Scaled Back
In April, Display campaigns were paused. Sessions from Display dropped from 114,338 to 25,447 — a 78% decline.
Organic search sessions in April: 11,457. Down just 7.5% from March's peak, and still 43% above where the engagement started in January.
The organic foundation held.
Organic Became the Primary Quality Driver
By April, organic search wasn't just maintaining traffic — it was outperforming paid search on the metric that matters most.
- Organic search key events (GA4): 24,172
- Paid search key events (GA4): 10,685
- Organic delivered 2.3x more conversions than paid search
And organic visitors were significantly more engaged: year-over-year data shows organic sessions average 50 seconds on site versus 26.5 seconds for paid search. These are visitors who found exactly what they were looking for.
Why This Matters
The instinct in B2B digital marketing is often to treat ads and organic as separate line items — one delivers immediate results, the other is a long game. The Solidigm results suggest a different framing.
When ads and SVO run together, ads aren't just traffic — they're buying time, building brand recognition, and gathering the behavioral signals that inform what organic content to build next. Meanwhile, SVO is quietly expanding the keyword footprint, improving positions, and creating content that earns visibility on its own terms.
The result: a marketing system that gets more efficient over time. Less paid spend required to maintain the same pipeline, because organic is carrying more of the load.
